My Dear Literary Folks,

I am so happy that some of you chose to visit me.  I would love to have a great conversation about one of things I love . . . writing.  If you will leave a signature after your comments, it will make my response to you more personal.  I do thank you for stopping by.  I want this blog to be about publishing as well as writing.  All of us who want to write, will need a multitude of information that we can get our hands on in order to be successful writers.  We also need to encourage each other to write well enough to get published.  If we stay in contact and keep talking about writing, reading and publishing our time together will be worthwhile.

As for informational purposes, "Bless Me, Ultima" by Rudolfo A. Anaya (1972) will start Friday at the theaters.  Anaya said of this book when he wrote it,  "I have been writing for the past ten year.  I have written volumes of poems, stories, novels, burned some, saved a few.  Out of a suitcase full I have, it seemed that ULTIMA distilled into something worthwhile.  Writing is not easy.  It is a lonely, and oftentimes unappreciated endeavor.  But I have to keep creating, I had to keep trying to organize all the beautiful, chaotic things into some pattern.  Writing is never quite learned.  I have to rewrite and rewrite each manuscript before I am satisfied."  It was once said that writers are their own worse critic and for Anaya, it must be so.

Happy reading and writing, until the next time!

  1. Since your B-Day is the 22nd, do you think George will take you to see the movie? I'd like to borrow your copy of the book and read it over the next two days so that I will get the true jest of what is being said. Is Anaya one of your favorites? I've never heard of him, as you know I don't read many books with work, school and the kids. What do you say, Can we go see the movie? Bjuana

  2. Hi Bjuana,
I don't think I will be seeing the movie on Friday, but I plan on seeing it during the following week. I will drop the book off for you on Thursday morning before my class. Anaya isn't one of my favorites as I've only learned about his work lately. I do like the book and I am sure I will love the movie. Sci-Fi is one of my favorite genres. I hope you visited all three of my red book sites on "YouTube." Toni Morrison is my all time favorite, because she is so poised and educated. Her entire aura beams of sophistication and brillance. I just love her. Anyway, I would be happy if you accompany me to the movie. Talk to you soon on "The Writer's Chat."

    2. How was the movie? Is it very sci-fi? If you had to write a paper on it as a review or summary, could you do it?

    3. It was good. Strange in many respects. I did go to sleep, but I always do. That's why I have to buy the movies so I can watch them in spurts. George

    4. I went to that movie with my sister. We thought it was great! I really liked the little boy and his attitude. He didn't care to call the old lady anything but Ultima. It was great how she helped him grow spiritually. The ending with the owl was the bomb. It's pretty much like the book. I recommend it to everyone. Bjuana

    5. I went this weekend and loved the movie. I think the characters were great and followed true to the book. Getting published must have been easy for Rudolfo Anaya because his book is a great one. Maybe I will try to send my to TQS if I don't get any results from Random.
